About heroines

Okay guys, let me ask you this: What kind of heroines’ are you drawn to in whatever genre?Screen Shot 2013-05-09 at 11.57.55 AM And as a writer what heroines do you gyrate towards writing?

Do you go for the introvert, the funny gal, the bold and sassy, or the hard as nails ones?  We all have our favorites, but no one wants doormat heroines, right?

Nor do we always want the hero to rescue her. Because that just makes me want to yank my hair out. I say, why can’t she rescue herself once in a while?

But as humans, in times of emotional crises, it’s not always easy to make the best choices—heck, even in normal circumstances we don’t always make the right decisions.

So we learn to find other ways to overcome our mistakes. As women, we have cunning, yes, we’re far superior that way 🙂 (reads smarts)–it means run and hide if you can’t defeat danger. Bet you thought I’d say something really devious *snort*

Since I write in the paranormal genre, I like my heroines to have some sort of capabilities of being able to fight, have a knowledge of self defense training–you never know what can pop out of the woodwork.

And of course, none of us like heroines who blindly walk into a dangerous situation with no idea how to handle a weapon, let alone land a punch.

But when a female who is armed, knows self-defence and is capable, is she still TSTL? Just because she’s female?

I like a woman who can hold her own in any situation.

I found since the release of my first book, while some readers saw my heroine as I intended, not the damsel in distress, wait until someone saves me kinda gal, others saw her as impulsive and getting into trouble. Of course I wrote Echo as someone who could stand on her own two feet. She didn’t always need the hero to save her butt.

On another note, while doing some research on the web and I came across this quiz–anything to shirk the work I was doing for my book 🙂

What kind of heroine are you?

Your man is fighting for his life! You are:

A: Giving him moral support. (dump her.)
B: Fighting alongside him. (absolutely)
C: Fighting FOR him. (yep!)
D: Waiting to be rescued. (Oh lord. Really?)
E: Making sure others don’t get hurt. (sigh)
F: Cheering him on and hoping for the best. (I give up…the man is dead!)

for those who want to take more of that quiz, here’s the link: Heroine’s Personality

Okay, got that off my chest, have a great day, and back to my writing cave…
