To read or not to read?

Reading is such an integral part of a writer’s life—I simply cannot understand how anyone can say they do not have time to lose themselves in the wonderful world created by words.

As a child I fell in love with stories and the written word. My mother would read to me from an enormous book of fairytales. I remember waiting impatiently for her to take out this marvelous treasure, so I could get lost in their stories… To this day, Beauty and the Beast is still my all time fave. Maybe its why I like writing about, dark, tortured and stubborn to the core heroes 🙂

As I grew older, I inhaled everything I got my paws on. And much to my siblings’ horror, it’s what I’d spend my pocket money on. Heck, I’d rather read than watch television, which is why now when my hubby asks me about a certain television show, or actor in the days of yonder—I mean as a teenager, I stare at him blankly, having no idea what he’s talking about, because I used to have my nose buried in a book.

There are moments when I find myself hitting a block with certain scenes when writing. Instead of getting frustrated like I did when I wrote my first book, I must say, those days I’d grit my teeth and try and weather it out…Yup, that didn’t work too well for me.

Now, I take a break and spend a few hours reading or watching a movie. Yes, I learned to sit back and watch movies, courtesy of hubby 🙂 I found, it’s just what I need, a break, because it gets my creative energy flowing and unplugs the blockage in my head and unravel the scene I’d been stuck in without any effort.

I find reading frees my mind to be more creative.

On the books front, I recently got into the Dragon Kin series by GA Aiken. What an absolutely great read those books were.

I loved the first three books, about Fearghus, the Black, Briec, the Silver—love that arrogant dragon who thinks the world belongs to him, and Gwenvael, the Gold. Book 4 was okay, finished it because of Ragner.  But I didn’t care for book 5. Mostly, I felt it lacked chemistry that the author is usually so good at.

I enjoyed book 6. “How to Drive a Dragon Crazy.”dragoncrazy Izzy made Eibhear run, after ignoring her for twenty-five long years. But my favorite dragon is still Briec, the Mighty.

So before I say, until next time, no, I’m not off to write or read but watch an Anime series with my daughter. A little update: My third novel is almost on the last stretch before first draft is completed.

And my first book Absolute Surrender will be released in just under 2 months… so excited 🙂

And a note of thanks to my darling daughter for updating my barely used website, since yours truly is technology challenged and the old site left me frustrated and growling when I wanted to post stuff.

until next time, Have a fabulous day.
